Don’t be Afraid of Upgrading to the new iPhone

The new iPhone has been getting a lot o press lately – good and bad – so you may be unsure as to whether or not you should get it. John Boitnott, contributor with, offers some reasons not to be afraid of upgrading to Apple’s new iPhone in the following article.

Despite issues with iOS 8 as well as a slight curvature problem you may have heard about, there’s very little doubt the new line of iPhones are worth the upgrade

Lately it’s been hard to avoid news of the new iPhone with all of its features (some of which were not intentional). Before you put in a request or wait in line for yours, you should think through whether it’s worth the upgrade. As a busy professional, you should know there are several benefits to upgrading, especially if you can trade in your current phone to help pay for it. Here are eight reasons the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus could be a good option for you.

Mobile Payments
Currently, Apple Pay is still more of a concept than a useful feature, but as more retailers begin to accept smartphone payments, the feature may become increasingly more important. As a business owner, you’ll eventually be able to use Apple Pay to send and accept payments from clients or purchase gift cards for colleagues. At the very least, you might wow clients when you pay for your coffee at Starbucks using your new phone.

Stronger Screen
While Apple opted not to go with the more durable Sapphire for its screen, a study showed the new screen is more durable than in previous editions. The screen is ion-strengthened, which means it goes through a process in which sodium ions in the glass are replaced by potassium ions. Some users are reporting the iPhone 6 Plus is “slippery,” partly because of its larger size and aluminum casing, making it more prone to drops. Although the same casing comes with the iPhone 6, it is said to be less slippery because it’s closer to the size of older iPhones, which you may already be use to.

Larger Size
The bigger screen is no doubt going to be popular among business owners, executives, and teenagers alike. Many users have said they feel the increased real estate makes it easier to operate and, for personal use, the larger screen makes it more enjoyable to stream video and play games. Generally speaking, a larger screen is a plus for everything from reading email to working with documents while on the go.

Thinner Form
The slimmer format makes the iPhone 6 generally easier to slip into pants pockets, purses, and briefcases. The lightweight form factor is also an advantage for those who carry it around all day. However, there has been that reported bending problem, so those who like to carry their phones in tight pants pockets should beware.

Faster Processor and WiFi
The new iPhones come with an A8 chip, which enables you to accomplish more in less time. With faster LTE wireless built in, you should be able to surf and download faster on the go, giving you the access wherever you need it. Whether you’re reading emails or firing messages back and forth to colleagues, you’ll probably notice an improvement with the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. Just remember not to go past the data limit on your plan.

Larger Screen Size
Whether you choose the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, you’ll enjoy a larger screen size with the upgrade. The iPhone 6 Plus is 5.5″ in diameter and the iPhone 6 is 4.7″, compared to the 4″ displays on the iPhone 5S and 5C. If you generally prefer a smaller phone, you should examine the iPhone 6 before buying. It is larger than previous iPhone models, so you may prefer to stay with your current phone.

Longer Battery Life
If you’ve been frustrated with the battery life of your current phone, the longer battery life on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus should be a huge selling point. The iPhone 5C and 5S had a battery life of 10 hours (talk time) on 3G, but the iPhone 6 has a battery length of 14 hours on 3G. The iPhone 6 Plus extends that to 24 hours. Standby time for the iPhone 6 is comparable to the previous models at up to 10 days, but standby time for the iPhone 6 Plus is up to 16 days.

Send Audio Messages
Apple is hoping audio messaging will be the next big thing. Instead of sending a client or coworker a text message, with the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus you can send audio messages. Recipients will be able to hear your tone of voice as well as your insightful comments rather than having to read them.

For Apple fans, the announcement of a new iPhone always brings anticipation, excitement, and even jubilation. But many have found it’s best to wait a short time before making the purchase, both for a hassle-free purchase process and to make sure most of the bugs have been worked out for the people who dive right in. The new features on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus make it a great option, both for your business needs and your personal ones.
